One summer many years ago I served as a camp counselor at Camp Challenge in Bedford, Indiana. One of the activities the children liked to participate in was hide n seek (about the time it was getting dusk).
There is something invigorating about this game, whether you are on the hiding or seeking side. I remember hiding so well one time that no ever did find me. I felt some accomplishment but I also felt disappointed. I wasn’t sure if they couldn’t find me or just gave up looking.
Jesus spoke these words in Luke 8: 17 –For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
I have to admit there have been times in my life where I thought I could hide from God. My thoughts, motives, even actions. But the truth is I can’t ever hide from God…and neither can you.
The way to be fully loved by God is to be fully known by God. Yes, He already knows our thoughts and actions. But there is something about truly being honest with Him that takes our relationship with Him to a whole different level.
Are you hiding from God in some way? Are there things in your life you need to lay bare before Him? I know it can be a bit scary to truly open yourself up to God. But it is the best way to be found and loved by Him.
After all, it really isn’t that much fun when nobody finds you.
